My Studio

Or craftroom, utility room, computer room, room-where-junk-goes-when-people-visit.

No matter what it is named, this room is a place for me to store my supplies, organize them and display things that inspire me.

I am a very visual person. I have to see art supplies to even remember that I have them. So I store things in ways that are easy to see.

For example, I store my yarn and fabric in a closet using shoe hangers.

This allows me to utilize space in the closet that is almost impossible to get at. And I can organize the skeins of yarn according to color, weight, brand or project.
I use the second shoe organizer to store fabric.

Another way I find extra space is to hang items from hooks. Using a peg board organizing system, I hang heavier flosses, scissors, and thread. Hanging the scissors there is a no brainer -- it keeps my three-year old boy's hands off them and keeps them where I can always find them.

I decided to hang the floss there because I wanted a way to display it as I found it in the store. Part of the reason going to needle arts stores gets me excited is that I see all the color, lined up and ready to go. I wanted to create that same feel in my studio.

Inspiration boards are what really gives the room personality. I covered foam board with fabric and used one board above my desk. This is where I pin magazine pictures, post cards, fabric swatches and anything else that catches my attention. The second board I used to focus on the DMC color line. I cut apart a DMC sample floss book and stapled it to the board. Here I am able to reference all of the colors when I am designed a project.

DMC is product line I use most. I use the flosses to do needlework, crochet, felting and tatting.

Subtle Fiber Arts

Welcome!

Subtle Fiber Arts -- According to word-origins.com, subtle is a mix of a latin word and an english word and once refered to finely woven material. Over the centuries it came to be barely detectable.

My hope is that as my skills in fiber arts grow, I will be able to create subtle art.
